Whilst I languished in a condition too horrible to be described, and which, in a land of humanity, and, what is much more, Christianity, seems a strange punishment for a little inadvertency and indiscretion; whilst I was in this condition, a fellow came into the prison, and, enquiring me out, delivered me the following letter:

In many instances, perhaps in the majority, young persons are guilty of this misconduct through inadvertency. It was not their design to injure, but to seek amusement.
