As the beast leaped Calumet's hand moved at his hip, his heavy six-shooter crashed spitefully, its roar reverberating among the buildings and startling the two gaunt horses in the corral to movement. The gray beast snarled, crumpled midway in its leap, and dropped at Calumet's feet. A dark patch on its chest just below the throat showed where the bullet had gone.
"Wellington, you have met Dekko, I think," laughed the girl. "Woomph!" grunted the dog disdainfully, as he cocked an eye at the bird, which ruffled its feathers, spread its red tail and looked down sideways and spitefully for a long moment. "My Gawd!" it suddenly shrieked. "My Gawd!"
When he heard him ring the bell on the second floor, an uneasy expression came over his face. He rubbed his chin with his left hand. “The idea of passing by me as though I were a block of wood,” murmured Carovius spitefully. “Just wait, young man, I’ll make you pay for that.”
It could be none other than one of the Marin Islands, a group of rocky islets which lay off the Marin County shore. "Because I should have thought the king had been more jealous," replied the chevalier, spitefully. During the last few minutes Monsieur had felt there was something of an irritating nature concealed under his favorite's remarks; this last word, however, ignited the powder. "Jealous!" exclaimed the prince. "Jealous! what do you mean? Jealous of what, if you please or jealous of whom?"
"I never noticed any special devotion," said Mr. Carter, amused. "You are mistaken, however, about Philip trying to injure him. I simply asked Philip whether he had received such a letter, and he said no." "I dare say he did receive it," said Mrs. Pitkin spitefully. "We won't argue the matter now," said the old gentleman. "I will only say that you and Alonzo, and Mr.
They moved a postponement, but to no purpose; Maud was elected; and the angry politicians had no better revenge than to say spitefully to Pennybaker on the stairs, as they went away, "How much did the Captain give you for that sell-out?" a jeer which he met by a smile of conscious rectitude and a request to be informed the next time they organized a freeze-out against him.
