This fashion of expression, when the sign disappears entirely in the thing signified, when the tongue, so to speak, leaves the thought it translates naked, whilst the other mode of expression cannot represent thought without veiling it at the same time: this is what is called originality and inspiration in style.

"There are plenty of ways out of the difficulty, so don't give yourself any concern and the United States is welcome to the letter. It will be a far day, I assure you, ere its cipher bureau translates it." He glanced at the clock. Mrs. Clephane arose. "I'm sorry for the mess I have made," she said. "Don't give it a thought," he assured her. "If you can help us, you will be where?"

It is not merely that he translates and simplifies and neglects certain truths that the world had not yet learned to see. He deliberately and intentionally falsifies. He knew as well as we do that a natural landscape would not arrange itself in such lines and masses for the purpose of throwing out the figure and of enhancing its emotion.

It translates animal life into moral endeavour, and what figured in the first as a local existence figures in the second as a specific good.

"This good Chatellerault has lost both heart and head to her." Chatellerault glanced at the speaker with an eye in which anger smouldered. "You have said it," I agreed. "He has fallen her victim, and so his vanity translates her into a compound of perfections. Does such a woman as you have described exist, Comte? Bah!

The real, the fact, what is attained or accomplished in and by us, prescribes and facilitates, or rather supplies, its own missing complement of perfection. Griffiths translates these characters as "who takes the throne of Horus." In the north-west corner of the tomb, a stairway of bricks was roughly inserted in later times in order to give access to the shrine of Osiris.

In other words, the aim of following nature means, in the concrete, regard for the actual part played by use of the bodily organs in explorations, in handling of materials, in plays and games. The general aim translates into the aim of regard for individual differences among children.

Amid all his raptures, however, the main chance is not forgotten; everything that he sees he translates into some terms of practical utility.

The name is a late Aramaic word meaning zealot. Hence Luke translates it for Gentile readers. He was one of the fanatical sect who would not have anything to do with Rome, and who played such a terrible part in the final catastrophe of Israel. The baser elements were purged out of his fiery enthusiasm when he became Christ's man.
