Vietnam or Thailand ? Vote for the TOP Country of the Week !

A shout went up from the boys who had heard the sally. For nearly a week the school grounds were a-hum with voices. Then things began to settle down into the regular yearly routine. In spite of the stiff program ahead Van managed to spend some part of each day, if only a few moments of it, with Tim McGrew. How much there was to tell!
"They know me well enough all the country round." The letter was as follows: MR. PETER MCGREW, If you're not out of that before the end of the month, but stay there doing things for them infernal blackguards, your goose is cooked. So now you know all about it. From yours, Edith attempted to laugh at this letter, but Peter made her understand that it was no laughing matter.
He had seen it before, every day since he could remember; but it seemed to have a fresh and almost mournful interest for him just now. "Hullo!" he exclaimed, as he leaned against the fence. "Putting up ladders? Oh, yes, I see! That's old Tommy McGrew, the house-painter. Well, Ham's house needs a new coat as badly as I did. Sure it'll fit too. Only it ain't used to it, any more'n I am." "Dabney!"
"Of course," he confessed, "as a professor of literature I'm not supposed to have read Dangerous Dan McGrew." "Are you a native?" "No, I'm a Philadelphian. Imported from Harvard to teach French. But I've been here ten years." "Nine years, three hundred an' sixty-four days longer than me." "Like it here?" "Uh-huh. Sure do!" "Really?" "Well, why not? Don't I look as if I were havin' a good time?"
"But for you, sir, little Timmie might have been left at the roadside to die," she would exclaim over and over. "We'll never forget it never neither I nor the children!" It was thus that Van became the hero of the McGrew household, and the warmth and genuineness of the welcome he unfailingly received there aroused in him an answering friendliness.
The following are supposed to be dead: Ann Haines, Knoxville, Ill., Sidney P. Edgerton, formerly of Blair, Nebraska, Thomas McGrew, John Cole, Wm. B. Rude, Wm. Robinson and Alex. Palmer, of Knoxville, Ill., Marshall B. Edgerton, late of Galesburg, Ill. Wm. Ischam, of Rochester, N.Y., Mr. Fish, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, John L. West, Aaron Larkin, Capt. Edwin Doty and Brien Byram, of Knoxville, Ill., Mr.
I do accordingly nominate and, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, shall appoint John Flood McGrew, Thomas Calvit, James Lea, Alexander Montgomery, and Daniel Burnet, being five of the said ten persons, to serve as a legislative council for the said Territory, to continue in office five years, unless sooner removed according to law.
Poor as the place was it was spotlessly neat and Tim's family were spotlessly tidy too. Mrs. McGrew, who supported her household by doing washing for some of the families in the town, might have had a permanent and much more lucrative position elsewhere had it not been for leaving her five little ones; as it was, she clung to her children, struggling to meet her living expenses as best she could.
"When her Ayah was dead there was no one to give a thought to the little thing. Think of the servants running away and leaving her all alone in that deserted bungalow. Colonel McGrew said he nearly jumped out of his skin when he opened the door and found her standing by herself in the middle of the room."
"Right afterwards you went out to the bar and had another drink all this takin' place in the hotel dining-room, and Mother McGrew down with neuralagy and not bein' present and one drink leads to another, you know. I come in then, and the bunch was drinkin' luck to you fast as Sam could push the bottles along.
