The first attack of angina pectoris only came on in the middle of the night of Monday-Tuesday, 3rd to 4th September. Later, when the disease had become acute, and I was in the south of England, living in hourly suspense, and receiving telegrams and letters several times a day, another curious incident occurred which has a bearing upon our subject.

A true angina causes the patient's face to look anxious and pale, with the breathing repressed. A false angina shows no such paleness, allows deep breathing, crying and lamenting, and allows the patient to move about in bed, or about the room. The true angina makes the patient absolutely still and quiet: he hardly dares to speak or tell what he is feeling and fearing.

I do not wish to die and leave her, for my three-quarter pay stops then. But I suffer from angina pectoris. It's the worry, Mr. Donald," he added. "Worry as to the future of Nan and the child?" "Aye, lad." "Well, Caleb, your worries are unnecessary. I feel it my duty to tell you that I love Nan; she loves me, and we have told each other so. She shall not suffer when you are gone.

There's nothing wrong with your wife's heart. Nothing organically wrong." "With that pain? She was in agony, Ransome, agony. Why can't you tell me at once that it's angina?" "Because it isn't. Not the real thing. False angina's a neurosis, not a heart disease. Get the nervous condition cured and she'll be all right. Has she had any worry? Any shock?" "Not that I know." "Any cause for worry?"

"The morning paper states very plainly that the cause of death was an attack of angina pectoris." "Yes, I know, and that is what Philip Rochester contends also." Barbara paused and glanced about the office; they had the room to themselves. "B-but Helen believes otherwise." Kent drew back. "What do you mean, Babs?" he demanded.

It is made from the ash of plants, which gives it a mildness not approached by even the most expensive soaps obtainable. Doing this for two or three nights will cure chapped, or even the more painful "hacked" hands, where the outer skin has got hard and cracked down to the tender inner layer. Chest Pains. See Angina Pectoris. Chest Protectors.

Perhaps any one of these conditions may be a cause of the heart pang, and no one be the only cause. In a true angina, death is frequently instantaneous. In other instances, death occurs in a few minutes or a few hours; or the patient's life may be prolonged for days, with more or less constant chest pains and frequent anginal attacks.

The suggestion of delicate health in his look and aspect, arising, as he was led to believe, but erroneously, from angina pectoris, or some mysterious chest pain, may have induced a belief that he was not robust, but this seems to have been baseless, because throughout his life, whether in the trenches of Sebastopol, the marshes of the Yangtse delta, or the arid plains of the Soudan, he appears to have equally enjoyed excellent health.

"Remember how insistent Mr. Rochester was that Turnbull had died from angina pectoris?" "I do," acknowledged Clymer, deeply interested. "Continue, Ferguson." The detective needed no second bidding. "Another point," he began. "There never would have been a post-mortem examination if Miss Helen McIntyre hadn't asked for it.

The surgical cases are of exceptional interest, and No. 38 refers to a case of angina for which he performed a successful operation. This is supposed to have been a tracheotomy, and if so, it is the first in the fourteen centuries that had elapsed since the days of Antyllus. There are other important cases which show that he was a dexterous and fearless surgeon.
