In order to counterfeit the passion whose fire is to make you a new man in the presence of your wife, you will require all the cunning of Talma. This passion is JEALOUSY. "My husband is jealous. I knew all this constellation, some of them as friends and supporters, others as enemies. In December, 1823, Talma made perhaps the greatest success of his life in Delavigne's "L'Ecole des Vieillards," in which his power of modulating his voice to the various emotions of old age was superbly shown.

In short, all our actors were good excepting Talma. My saying this will no doubt make my readers laugh. The fact is, that Talma, who acted lovers' parts with us, was so awkward and diffident that no one could then possibly have foreseen how great an actor he would become. My surprise was therefore very great when I saw our leading man surpass Larive and take the place of Lekain.

Genius invents fine manners, which the baron and the baroness copy very fast, and, by the advantage of a palace, better the instruction.
"I nothing!" replied Kenelm; and then deepening his naturally mournful voice into tones ominous and tragic, continued, "By whom you are wanted let this explain;" therewith he placed in Mr. Compton's hand the letter with which he was charged, and stretching his arms and interlacing his fingers in the pose of Talma as Julius Caesar, added, "'Qu'en dis-tu, Brute?"
Madame TALMA. For this name she is indebted to a divorce, having snatched TALMA from his first wife, an elderly woman who had ruined herself for him, or whom he had ruined. She quitted her first husband, a dancing-master of the name of PETIT, to live under the more than friendly protection of Mademoiselle RAUCOURT. Madame TALMA is not handsome, and is now on the wane.
