They had brought over some patchwork squares and were making quilts for Debby Field-Mouse. As it was a play day from school, Dot invited Patty Spider, Topsy Toad, Molly and Dolly Grasshopper, and Fidelia Cricket to visit Tiny and Teenty and help sew the pretty patchwork. Aunt Squeaky had baked them some tiny raisin cakes. They were having a jolly party under the wild grape-vine.

"Oh, isn't it grand to come all by ourselves!" whispered Tiny. "Isn't it grand!" echoed Teenty. "Mammy Graymouse will think we are old enough to look out for ourselves if only we can find something nice to take home to her," went on Tiny. "Oh, see, Teenty, they haven't thrown away their Christmas tree, yet! I smell goodies. Why, it is pop-corn! But I never saw it growing on a string before.

Susy knew that little Prudy's heart must be overflowing with sisterly love to the baby, or she would not be willing to give her the pocket-dress. "She can tuck her candy in it," pursued Prudy; "'tisn't a believe-make, you know; there's a hole clear through. She can tuck her candy in, and her pyunes and pfigs, and teenty apples. Oho!"

Then they dragged it home, making a funny path in the snow. "To-morrow we will come again," planned Scamper, "and we will bring Wink and Wiggle, Teenty and Tiny. We must all gather princess pine, evergreen and holly to trim the barn so it will look real Christmasy." All that week, the children had a jolly time. They made holly wreaths dotted with red berries, and yards of evergreen trimming.

You will see how much easier it will be to eat your piece of egg plant in two or three weeks." "And it just seems as if I always did get the very largest piece of all," Ruby said in despair. "This morning you had a little teenty piece and mine was twice as large." "That was so you would have twice as much practice in learning to like it, I suppose," Aunt Emma said with a smile.

And de Lord he hold 'em all in de holler ob his hand," said the old negress, shaping her great black palm to suit the idea; "and he knows 'em all by name, too. Specs 'tis wonderful; but ebery one ob dem leetle, teenty tings has got a name, and de great Lord he 'members 'em ebery one."

At last, Silver Ears, Buster, Tiny and Teenty were seated around the breakfast-table sipping their hot porridge. Mother Graymouse was dressing Baby Squealer who was howling, as usual. "Where is Limpy-toes, Mammy?" asked Tiny. "Didn't he come home?" "Sniff! sniff!" went Mother Graymouse. "My poor children, I fear you will never see your dear brother again."

Think of the way we run after a foolish, vulgar woman who has married into millions, and then think of the way we sniff at this girl because she has some gift which science doesn't understand. If one teenty, tiny bit of what they claim about her is true, science ought to cherish her.

Her sharp white teeth cut the string arid with a bang, down fell their prize. Then Tiny swung herself nimbly to the floor. "Such a lot of candy! Won't Buster grin," laughed Tiny as she caught up a string of pop-corn and started for home. Teenty took another string and followed after her sister. "See, Silvy, what a nice lot of pop-corn we have brought," said Tiny.

But my other guess is the one I b'leeve in most, that the Head Man done it to scrooch him down, so's he'd take notice o' little teenty things, down below, that most folks never see, things that needed him to watch 'em, and do for 'em, and tell about 'em. That's my fav'rite guess. 'Tany rate, the Head Man done right, I'm cert'in sure o' that.
