At first he said "No"; but then recollecting, he began, "Stay, let me see, at Nicolas Graeke's, the inn at the castle, there are two great Dutch merchants Dieterich von Pehnen and Jacob Kiekebusch who are come to buy pitch and boards, item timber for ships and beams; perchance they may like to cheapen your amber too; but you had better go up to the castle yourself, for I do not know for certain whether they still are there."

And through all these years my constant prayer for my boy has been, 'Lead him where Thou wilt, Oh God, only let him not fall out of Thy hands; When this heavy trial came, which was almost beyond my strength to bear, I did not lose my faith that the God to whom I had given him, would not let my Dieterich be lost.

A German translation appeared in 1786 with the imprint London: it was, however, in reality printed by Dieterich at Goettingen. As I have remarked above, the food thus partaken of was a Food of Life "Die Attis-Diener in der Tat eine magische Speise des Lebens aus ihren Kult-Geraten zu essen meinten." Dieterich in his interesting study entitled Eine Mithrasliturgie refers to this meal as the centre of the whole religious action.

R. Dieterich von Pehnen and Jakob Kiekebusch; but, as we have heard from a schipper, they since died of the plague at Stettin. Q. Why had we said nothing of such a godsend?
