William Veitch of Dumfries in her autobiography, 'having been at prayer, and coming into the room where one was reading a letter of Mr. Rutherford's directed to one John Gordon of Rusco giving an account of how far one might go and yet prove a hypocrite and miss heaven it occasioned great exercise in me. Dr.

Veitch has rightly indicated, has little of the later feeling and regards barren nature with the unfavourable eyes of the farmer and the practical agriculturist, nor has the travelled Goldsmith more to shew.

"Did I understand you to say you stood up to see something before you were shot?" asked Veitch. "Why, sure!" replied Golden contemptuously. "I had my two legs then." Veitch wished to learn the exact location of the witness at the time he was shot and to that end referred to the model with the remark: "Look here. Here is the boat as it was at the dock."

Veitch made this cross about the same time, but the seedlings of the former flowered in 1889, of the latter, in 1891. Here we see an illustration of the advantage which French horticulturists enjoy, even so far north as Paris; a clear sky and abundant sunshine made a difference of more than twelve months. When Italians begin hybridizing, we shall see marvels and Greeks and Egyptians!

"I came to the United States," said the witness, "because it is supposed to be a free country." "We object to that as immaterial!" cried prosecutor Veitch. The witness described the firing of the first shot and told of his attempts to find a place of safety. He said he was wounded in the hand as he attempted to climb into a life boat.

Conscience supposes, indeed, the existence of some such faculty, and properly signifies our consciousness of having acted agreeably or contrary to its directions. The following remark on his views is made by Professor Veitch: 'Ferguson, while holding-with Reid that the notion of Rightness is not resolvable into utility, or to be derived from sympathy or a moral sense, goes a step beyond both.

H. D. Cooley, lumber mill lawyer and former prosecuting attorney, also spoke at different times on the open shop questions. Cooley was likewise an attorney for the prosecution in the Tracy case and he, like Veitch, was retained by "interested parties."

Cooley had a practice among the big lumbermen, and in the case against the I. W. W. he was hired by the state with no stipulation as to pay. The general excuse given for his activities in the case, which dated from November 6th, was that he was retained by "friends of Jefferson Beard" and other "interested parties." Attorney A. L. Veitch was also lined up with the prosecution.

Dear Madam, I remain, Yours sincerely, JAMES VEITCH. Sir David Brewster was many years younger than James Veitch; in his early years he assisted his father in teaching the parish-school at Jedburgh, and in the evenings he went to Inchbonny to study astronomy with James Veitch, who always called him Davie.

Veitch, which has supplied me with a mass of details, I find ten hybrid Calanthes; thirteen hybrid Cattleyas, and fifteen Loelias, besides sixteen "natural hybrids" species thus classed upon internal evidence and the wondrous Sophro-Cattleya, bi-generic; fourteen Dendrobiums and one natural; eighty-seven Cypripediums but as for the number in existence, it is so great, and it increases so fast, that Messrs.
