When they had waked up again, Bobby thought it time to move on, but as soon as he offered to move, the Sleepy-heads surrounded him and began to sing a drawling song, which made Bobby sleepy. He soon found that they meant to make him one of themselves, and this was not at all to his taste. He struggled to get away, but something held him about the feet. What should he do?
Miss Fairweather assisted in the task of placing the sleepy-heads in their high-chairs and in the subsequent occupation of entertaining them by means of sundry grimaces and motions, keeping them awake and quiet against the arrival of Mr. Bingle, who, it appears, had gone to his room to substitute a pair of far from fashionable carpet slippers for the smart pumps he had been wearing.
A drowsy murmur of corroboration went the rounds, and Peggy, making open mock of them all for a company of "sleepy-heads," went blithely on her way toward the particular column of smoke which she felt sure was issuing from the chimney of the Cole farmhouse. A very comfortable, pleasant farmhouse it was, though quite eclipsed by the big red barn which loomed up in the background.
There was a beating of drums the foolish drums which the natives made so crudely and long chants, rising in the darkness like the monotonous melodies the boys had heard in the cotton fields of the South. Frank shook Jack and Harry out of their bunks, much to the disgust of the two sleepy-heads.

Instead of looking out over the lake they were looking at George.
Suddenly a bright thought came to his relief. The Sleepy-heads were now all standing in a ring around him. He began to tell a story at the top of his voice: "My gran'pappy, he fit weth a red Injun. An' the Injun he chopped my gran'pappy's finger off weth his tomahawk, and "
Instead of the two tired little sleepy-heads that could barely finish supper, awake, when night came, we lay in our trundle-bed, whispering softly to each other and staring at the dark with tear-wet eyes our spiritual barometers warning us of a coming change. Something must have happened to us that night which only the retrospect of years revealed.
They were conversing in a lively manner, laughing and pinching one another, whispering in one another's ears and then breaking out into loud laughter. "You'll wake up the people who are still asleep," Aunt Isabel scolded. "When we were young, we didn't make so much disturbance." "Neither would you get up so early nor would the old folks have been such sleepy-heads," retorted little Sinang.
True, the sun was only peeping above the horizon, and the birds still twittered amidst the shrubbery near by; but Elmer knew what great hands farm people are about getting up betimes, and he did not wish to keep Mrs. Trotter's breakfast waiting for any sleepy-heads.
