LXIV. In the mean time Decimus Brutus, surnamed Albinus, who was in such favour with Cæsar that he was made in his will his second heir, but was engaged in the conspiracy with the other Brutus and Cassius, being afraid that if Cæsar escaped that day, the affair might become known, ridiculed the seers and chided Cæsar for giving cause for blame and censure to the Senate who would consider themselves insulted: he said, "That the Senate had met at his bidding and that they were all ready to pass a decree, that he should be proclaimed King of the provinces out of Italy and should wear a diadem whenever he visited the rest of the earth and sea; but if any one shall tell them when they are taking their seats, to be gone now and to come again, when Calpurnia shall have had better dreams, what may we not expect to be said by those who envy you? or who will listen to your friends when they say that this is not slavery and tyranny; but if," he continued, "you are fully resolved to consider the day inauspicious, it is better for you to go yourself and address the Senate and then to adjourn the business."

'Think not thou canst sigh a sigh, And thy Saviour is not by; Think not thou canst shed a tear And thy Saviour is not near. Do not front the world alone. In all our afflictions He is with us; out of them all He saves. 'Thou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, those that remember Thee in Thy ways. ISAIAH lxiv. 5.
SECTION LXIV. I shall, in a future portion of this work, endeavor to discover what probabilities there are of our being able to use this kind of art in modern churches; but at present it remains for us to follow out the connection of the subjects represented in St.
We adored him, all the countryside adored him. Keep well, and think sometimes of your absent friends. We embrace you affectionately. The little one is very well, she is charming. LXIV. TO GUSTAVE FLAUBERT, at Paris Nohant, August, 1867 I bless you, my dear old fellow, for the kind thought that you had of coming; but you were right not to travel while you were ill.
"There is none that calleth upon Thy name, that stirreth himself to take hold of Thee." ISA. lxiv. 7. "And I sought for a man that should stand in the gap before Me for the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found none." EZEK. xxii. 30. "I chose you, and appointed you, that ye should go and bear fruit: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in My name, He may give it you." JOHN xv. 16.
After sacrificing to the gods for the recovery of his health, he started again on his journey, and passed through a great extent of country and past many considerable cities, all of which he subdued. LXIV. He captured ten of the Indian philosophers called Gymnosophistæ; who had been instrumental in causing Sabbas to revolt, and had done much mischief to the Macedonians.
LXIV. The latter demands hostages from the remaining states: nay, more, appointed a day for this proceeding; he orders all the cavalry, fifteen thousand in number, to quickly assemble here; he says that he will be content with the infantry which he had before, and would not tempt fortune nor come to a regular engagement; but since he had abundance of cavalry, it would be very easy for him to prevent the Romans from obtaining forage or corn, provided that they themselves should resolutely destroy their corn and set fire to their houses, by which sacrifice of private property they would evidently obtain perpetual dominion and freedom.
As his wife had broken her silence the madcap saw no use in going further and they turned homewards; all the way his wife went on chatting and singing along with him. When he reached home he sacrificed a number of goats to his grandfather, and lived happily with his wife ever after. LXIV. The Dumb Shepherd.
LXIV. Marcellinus, being informed of this disorder, detached some cohorts to the relief of our men, who seeing them flee from the camp, were neither able to persuade them to rally at their approach, nor themselves to sustain the enemy's charge. And in like manner, whatever additional assistance was sent, was infected by the fears of the defeated, and increased the terror and danger.
