Indeed, I have heard him often at the bar myself, and always with the same effect. I do not recollect, in conversation, any particular allusion of my father's to Burr's argument in the case of Le Guen vs. Gouverneur and Kemble; but I have frequently heard him say, that of all lawyers at the bar, Burr was the most difficult to follow in the way of taking notes.

Other writers speak of the Germans as bathing in their rivers, doubtless in the summer; but in the winter they use the warm bath, as more agreeable in that cold climate. So in Russia and other cold countries, cf. Mur. in loco. Separatae mensa. Contra Romanorum luxuriam, ex more fere Homerici aevi. Guen.

I will endure your haste or your silence without a murmur. One is not always in the bumour to write, and one always writes as much as the humour prompts. I am here sentinel over the interest of Le Guen, and cannot leave the post until the final decision be had, of which, at present, I form no conjecture as to the period; but I entertain no doubt of Le Guen's eventual success.

P.; commenced practice at the close of the revolution under the most favourable auspices; multiplication of his papers; condensation a peculiar trait in his mind; never solicited a favour from an opponent; a strict practitioner; character of his mind; manner of speaking; accorded to General Hamilton eloquence; an incident in relation to Hamilton and Burr in the cause of Le Guen vs.

Guen. understands this of personal filth. But this is inconsistent with the daily practice of bathing mentioned, Sec. 22. It doubtless refers to the dress, as Gr. and K. understand it: nudi ac sordidi==poorly and meanly clad. So also Or. Quae miramur. Cf. 4: magna corpora. See also Caes. On haec, see note, 3: haec quoque. Ancillis ac nutricibus. So in the Dial. de Clar.

Her heart is as cold as marble, And you mistake the effusions of politeness, mingled with respect, for symptoms of tender emotions. The argument of the cause of Le Guen is concluded. I fear that I must wait for the final decision of the court before I can leave Albany. To-morrow I go with John to Schenectady. I am more impatient to return than I can express. Albany, March 5, 1800.

John Van Ness Yates, son of the late chief justice, and ascertain whether the incident, as reported, was founded on fact. To that letter Mr. Weed received the following answer. Albany, July 8th, 1837. After some difficulty in finding my father's notes of the argument in the case of Le Guen vs.

Properly beyond expectation, beyond necessity, beyond measure, beyond any thing mentioned in the foregoing context. Hence unexpectedly, freely, cheerfully, very much, even more. Here very, quite. Gr. Inertia Gallorum. T., says Guen., is an everlasting persecutor of the Gauls, cf. Haud dubie==haud dubii. It limits Germanorum populi. Undoubtedly German tribes. Meruerint.

You may tell C. that as she and I are on ceremony, I shall expect the first letter. She knows well that the bare sight of her handwriting would drive Le Guen and the parchments to the antipodes. I do thank you for your constancy about the French ball. Do not be alarmed lest I expect too much.
