Over the field the two Elevens spread, while cheer after cheer met in mid-field, clashed, and rolled upward to the blue. As the Association rules are very easily learned in theory, the great bulk of the spectators show an acquaintance with them which is pleasing to see, and when an assumed infringement takes place, it is generally heralded from some part of the field by a partisan of the contending elevens.
While the Service Elevens are superbly supported by the men who have been through the exacting mill at West Point and Annapolis their sweethearts and wives, not to mention sisters, cousins, uncles and aunts they are urged on to battle by that great impartial public which believes that in a sense these two teams belong to it.
