Feature it as a typical Klondyke card game. I'll give you a two-page write-up. Why, it's the greatest thing I ever did! "'I'm sorry, says Morrow, thoughtful, 'but you musn't run it. "'What! says he, and I thinks, 'Oh, Lord! There goes my only show to get perpetufied in ink. "'I can't let you use it. My wife might see it. "'Your wife! says I. 'Are you married, pardner?
She was feeling very wretched; it was the end of the month; in two days Louis, already nervy and restless, would get the month's money, either by persuasion or force, and either vanish for a week or, coming home every night from Klondyke, reduce her to a state of inarticulate wretchedness. She was on the point of losing hope entirely.
I have asked old and experienced miners at Dawson City who mined through California in Bonanza days, and some who mined in Australia, what they thought of the Klondyke region, and their reply has invariably been, "The world never saw so vast and rich a find of gold as we are working now." Dawson City is destined to be the greatest mining camp in the history of mining operations.
It was little past midsummer. A large ship of the collier class, lately fitted in the roughest possible manner for carrying passengers to Alaska, lay alongside the dock in the great town of S. Hundreds of people waited on shore to catch the latest glimpse of friends about to leave them, while a round thousand of those eager to "strike it rich" in the new Klondyke swarmed over the vessel.
He spends one week at Lake Lindeman making his boat and getting ready for the long trip down the waterways to Dawson City, the heart of the Klondyke region. The trip through Lake Lindeman is short, the lake being only five miles long. At the foot of the lake he must portage to Lake Bennet, the portage however being very short, less than a mile.
"She died up here about 1898, and was buried on the road to the Klondyke." Helen Yardely joined in his laughter. "May she never be resurrected though I am afraid she will be. Where there are half-a-dozen conventional women Mrs. Grundy is always in the midst. But I'm free of her for the time, and I'm just going to live the primitive life whilst I'm here.
Now, I'm not usually prone to try my hand at prophecy; but I am tempted to say, even on our short acquaintance, that I am tolerably sure that, while we shall be willing enough to spare most of the new-comers to the Klondyke, we shall grudge to the gold-fields the men who built this camp and warmed this cabin."
"Do you think it's because you're so pretty that she " Flora smiled reluctantly. "If I were a man I could swear and swear!" "Swear anyhow," suggested Billy encouragingly. "I'll show yuh how." "And father away off in Klondyke," she said irrelevantly, passing over his generous offer, "and and dead, for all we know! And she doesn't care at all! She "
As the two men proceeded, making numerous trips with the freight laden mules between camps, they found, much to their disappointment, that, without assistance, they would not be able to reach Lake Bennett in time to build a boat and make their way into the Klondyke before being overtaken by winter.
It seems days ago. They said she knew the way blindfold. They didn't think to tell me she didn't know it unless she was blindfold." Marcella laughed again, and knew who he was. "If it hadn't been for those fires I should never have got here. But, perhaps you can tell me where Mrs. Farne lives? They all seemed to know her at Klondyke." Marcella pointed towards the glowing gorse.
