The child next becomes restless and feverish at night, its thirst is considerable, and the colicky pains become both more severe and more frequent.
The eyes are frequently affected, the lids and cornea showing more or less inflammation. The digestive tract may be affected. Such colics are dangerous, and may terminate fatally. Intestinal obstruction, thrombo-embolic colics, unthriftiness and a weakened, anaemic condition may be caused by intestinal worms. The treatment is both preventive and medicinal.
Prepared as tea, however, it makes a grateful diluent drink in fevers; and in this way it is commonly used, either by itself, or acidulated with the juice of lemons. Woodville's Med. In colicky pains, the gripes to which children are subject, lienteries, and other kinds of immoderate fluxes, this plant frequently does good service.
