Abraham Lincoln, grandfather of the president, was born in Union, Pa., and in 1759 removed with his parents to a point near Harrisonburg, Va. John Hanks and Squire Boone, father of Daniel Boone, were neighbors of the Lincolns at Union; the former took up his residence at Harrisonburg, Va., and Squire Boone removed to Holman's Ford, on the Yadkin River, in North Carolina.

But in spite of the strange melancholy of the place, the two girls were in much better spirits than they had been on the previous day. Holman could never get into her head that that bill was correct why, Holman had had his fixed, regular pocket-money! Mrs. Holman's bitter observations were numerous when she found herself compelled to choose between want and seeking work.
