Another chronicler, to whom I have been frequently indebted in the progress of the narrative, is Francisco Lopez de Gomara. For, although the Portuguese have an insufficient number of men in the Indias, to attend to all matters that arise, and at the same time defend themselves against our nation, they can send men there much easier than we.
