The year 1492 is an era in geographical annals. It is the date of the discovery of America. The old world was to be entrusted with the moral and political education of the new.

Decem was, of course, the biggest cow of the party, or at least she was the ruler of the others, and had the place of honor in the stable and everywhere else.
