From that time Idumea decayed, and now has become an utter wilderness, the carved faces of the rocks still witnessing to the truth of prophecy, as they stand forth, lonely and deserted in their grandeur, though glowing freshly with the rosy marblings of the rocks of Seir. And He shall put a yoke of iron on thy neck until He have destroyed thee. Deut. xxviii.48.
Only true teachers are to preach, in the Church: Deut. 13, 6 ff.; Jer. 23, 28. 31. 32; Matt. 5, 19; 28, 20; 2 Cor. 2, 17; Gal. 1, 8; 1 Tim. 4, 16; 1 Pet. 4, 11. Christians are to listen to true teachers only: Matt. 7, 15; John 8, 31; 10, 27. 5; Acts 2, 42; Rom. 16, 17; 2 John 10; 1 Tim. 6, 3-5; Eph. 4, 14; Titus 3, 10; 2 Cor. 6, 14-18.
Were not the Israelites forbidden to take usury from their brethren, whether poor or rich? Deut. 23:19: 'Thou shalt not lend upon usury to thy brother.
What is it to take usury, according to the proper signification of the word? "A. It is to take gain, profit, or interest, for the loan of money. What kind of usury or interest is lawful? "A. That which is moderate, easy, and no way oppressive. Deut. 23:20, compared with Ex. 22:21. How do you prove that moderate usury is lawful?
"Ye shall have ONE LAW for him that sinneth through ignorance, both for him that is born among the children of Israel and for the STRANGER that sojourneth among them." Deut. xxvii. 19. VI. The Mosaic system enjoined the greatest affection and kindness toward servants, foreign as well as Jewish. Lev. xix. 34.
Num. xxxv. 15 the gleanings of the harvest and vintage were assigned to them, Lev. xix. 9, 10, and xxiii. 22, and 25, 6; the blessings of the Sabbath, theirs, Ex. xx. 10; the privilege of offering sacrifices secured, Lev. 22. 18; and stated religious instruction provided for them. Deut. xxxi. 9, 12.
See to this purpose Deut. iv. 25, &c.; also. Deut. 30, where it is thus written.
And when thou sendest him out free from thee, thou shalt not let him go away empty: Thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock and out of thy floor, and out of thy wine-press: of that wherewith the Lord thy God hath blessed thee, shalt thou give unto him. Deut. xv, 13, 14. If he come in by himself, he shall go out by himself; if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him.
One is reminded of the Biblical injunction with regard to the Laws of Yahwe, Deut. vi. 7: "Thou shall teach them to thy sons and speak constantly of them." I.e., to the kings who are frequently called 'shepherds' in the historical texts. Or, according to the earlier view, to an atmospheric god. "The Gilgamesh Epic."
Many have, in fun, or wanting to know something, imbibed an evil spirit and were tormented by it day and night. God will protect His people if they will look to Him and not yield to evil spirits. It is dangerous. Read Lev. 19:31; Deut. 18:10:12; Acts 16:16-19; 8:11-21; 13:6-12. Hatred is a sin. Even if someone does us a wrong we must forgive them or Jesus has said that He would not forgive us.
