#Punctured Wounds.# Punctured wounds are produced by narrow, pointed instruments, and the sharper and smoother the instrument the more does the resulting injury resemble an incised wound; while from more rounded and rougher instruments the edges of the wound are more or less contused or lacerated.

"Father, he sinks again!" said the girl. "Sibyll," answered the man, putting his finger upon a line in a manuscript book that he held, "the authority saith, that a patient so contused should lose blood, and then the arm must be tightly bandaged. Verily we lack the wherewithal."

#The Ulnar Nerve.# The most common injury of this nerve is its division in transverse accidental wounds just above the wrist. In the arm it may be contused, along with the radial, in crutch paralysis; in the region of the elbow it may be injured in fractures or dislocations, or it may be accidentally divided in the operation for excising the elbow-joint.

Owing to the exposed position of this structure, it is not infrequently contused, the result of falls, kicks and other injuries. The function of the triceps is such that it becomes strained upon rare occasions when a horse resists confinement of restraint in such manner that the parts are unduly tensed in contraction.

He was badly contused, and for a short time insensible; but he quickly sprung to his feet again, mounted his horse, and maintained his place in the fight as if nothing had happened. After this second repulse he again formed up his troops, and at that moment he was joined by Holstein with his cavalry. The sun had already set, and the darkness favoured the attack.

Slowly and delicately the knife did its work. Finally, a horribly contused limb was revealed. "Cold water and plenty of it," murmured Jeff. "Or hot?" "Mebbee hot'd be better." Bud disappeared, whistling. "That boy's earning a five-dollar bill," said Jeff. "I'm a liar if he ain't as bright as they make 'em." The hot water was brought and some linen. "I feel a heap better," Jeff declared presently.

'There are two contused wounds along the scalp as long as that pencil the whole line of each partially depressed, the depression all along being deep enough to lay your finger in. You can ask Irons, who dresses them when I'm out of the way. 'I'd rather ask you, Sir, replied Dangerfield, in turn a little high.

A practical manner of classification of arthritis is traumatic and metastatic. Traumatic arthritis may result from all sorts of accidents wherein joints are contused. Such cases may be considered as being caused by direct injuries.

The purser was much cut about the head, and both his arms severely contused. The poor animal had one of his legs broken, and it was a charity to shoot him on the spot.

The mental was all embraced in the one painful thought of Minnie Heath and what had been her fate; the physical was mingled with the pain caused during the healing up of the horrible contused wound above his temples; while when he had not been suffering from this he was burdened by a series of wearing headaches, which would wake him from a refreshing sleep somewhere about the middle of the night, and not die out again till just before it was light.
