Sunt, quos curriculo pulverem Olympicum, and if we take into consideration that Juror says in the same scene: And when thy swelling vents amain, Then Pisces be thy sporting chamberlain, it is not asserting too much that these are manifest hits at Florio, who, to please his Maecenas, tries with Dr. Diodati, his 'guide-fish' to capture the 'whale' in the 'rocke rough ocean.
Assuming, then, that the circumstances of this allegory identify Mirabella with Rosalinde, and Rosalinde with Rose Daniel, and, in like manner, the Fool and Carle with Menalcas and John Florio, have we not here a thrice-told tale, agreeing so completely in all essential particulars as to leave no room for doubt of its original application to the early love-adventures in which the poet was disappointed?
"Yes, dear child, so it does. And let us hope that we shall find that beautiful island, and never wish to leave it." There was once a child named Florio, who had neither father nor mother, uncle nor aunt, and so it happened that he was adopted by a witch.
This passage is almost literally taken from Essay I. 30, 'On Cannibals. We shall later on show Shakspere's reason for giving us this fanciful description of such an Utopian commonwealth. 36: Florio, after enumerating the difficulties he encountered in the translation of the Essays, concludes his preface to the courteous reader with the following words:
One gets right round the bulk of Epomeo, and looks up into a weird region called Le Falange, where white lava streams have poured in two broad irregular torrents among broken precipices. Florio itself is placed at the end of a flat headland, boldly thrust into the sea; and its furthest promontory bears a pilgrimage church, intensely white and glaring.
Florio, the Name of the young Heir that lived with Leontine, though he had all the Duty and Affection imaginable for his supposed Parent, was taught to rejoice at the Sight of Eudoxus, who visited his Friend very frequently, and was dictated by his natural Affection, as well as by the Rules of Prudence, to make himself esteemed and beloved by Florio.

By the death of Dr. Johnson in 1784, Miss More lost the best friend she ever had in London.
