I have a hope my thoughts as true confirm; * And heart that fainteth as right well canst trow. To lavish life is hardest thing that be, * Yet easy an Thou bid me life forego; But, an it be Thy will to save from stowre, * Thou, O my Hope, to work this work hast power!"

As in His creative energy, the forces that flung the whole universe forth were not exhausted by the act, but subsist continually to sustain it, as 'He fainteth not, neither is weary, so in the works of His providence, and more especially of His grace, there is nothing in the exercise of any of His attributes to exhaust that attribute, nothing in the constant appeal which we make to His forgiving grace to weary out that grace.

A life of which David sings, "They shall walk in the light of Thy countenance," and Isaiah prophesies, "They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint." Even as God the Creator fainteth not nor is weary, shall they who walk with Him, waiting on Him, never be exhausted or feeble.

'My soul longeth and fainteth for God, for the living God, to see His glory and beauty as I have seen them in the sanctuary. When I first left England, my hope of the conversion of the heathen was very strong; but, among so many obstacles, it would entirely die away unless upheld by God.

Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my delight. Let the proud be ashamed; for they dealt perversely with me without a cause: but I will meditate in thy precepts. Let those that fear thee turn unto me, and those that have known thy testimonies. Let my heart be sound in thy statutes; that I be not ashamed. My soul fainteth for thy salvation: but I hope in thy word.

"My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God. "Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul. "I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. "I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: mine eyes fail while I wait for my God."

His pillar of cloud by day and of fire by night shall stand in the sky; He shall lead the flock like a shepherd; He shall gather the little ones in His arms, and carry the children in His bosom. And if the father fall on the march, the wings of the Eternal shall brood the babes that are left. His right arm shall be a sword and His left arm a shield. The eternal God fainteth not, neither is weary.

And in that connection it is very striking to notice how the prophet, in the context, reiterates these two words, 'fainteth not, neither is weary. He begins by speaking of 'God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, who fainteth not, neither is weary. He passes on to speak of His gift of power to the faint.

My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God. Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God. Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.

His name is Kwan Rung, and I am informed that he was born about two hundred years after the beginning of the Christian era. Such is the person who is worshipped here. That he may not be hungry food is placed before him at times, and also water to drink. It is a poor, weak human god after all, a dying, dead man. How different the Creator of the ends of the earth, Who fainteth not neither is weary!
