It was in 1653 that Moliere brought out at Lyons his comedy l'Etourdi, the first regular piece he had ever composed. The Depit amoureux was played at Beziers in 1656, at the opening of the session of the States of Languedoc; the company returned to Paris in 1658; in 1659, Moliere, who had obtained a license from the king, gave at his own theatre les Precieuses ridicules.
After the last assigned period had expired, on the 1st of June, 1658, the council of twelve declared them guilty, and on the 4th of that month sentence of death was pronounced against them. The execution of twenty-five noble Netherlanders, who were beheaded in three successive days in the marketplace at Brussels, was the terrible prelude to the fate of the two counts.
The great carillon in the belfry at Bruges, thus far spared by the iconoclasts of 1914, consisting of forty bells and one large Bourdon, or triumphal bell, is from the foundry of the great Dumery, who also made the carillon at Antwerp. Haweis credits Petrus Hemony, 1658, with being the most prolific of all the bell founders. He was a good musician and took to bell founding only late in life.

John Norton actively exerted himself to secure more stringent legislation; procured petition to that effect to be presented to court. 1658, 19 Oct. Enacted that undomiciled Quakers returning from banishment should be hanged. Under this act the following persons were hanged: 1659, 27 Oct. Robinson and Stevenson hanged. 1660, 1 June. Mary Dyer hanged. 1660-1661, 14 Mar. William Leddra hanged.
The book was republished "with large additions by John Playford" in 1658. The edition referred to in the text was published in 1667 with a second title of "The Musical Companion." are not yet out, the fire having hindered it, but his man tells me that it will be a very fine piece, many things new being added to it. 24th. The eagerness to taste the strange beverage drawing too much company to his board, Edwards allowed the lad, together with a servant of his son-in-law, to sell it publicly; whence coffee was first sold in St. Michael's Alley in Cornhill by Pasqua Rosee, "at the sign of his own head," about the year 1658.
