In one place we could plainly see an arched rock called "Pierced Rock," where the sea passed below a natural bridge. The moon came up brightly as we sailed out into the Gulf. By-and-bye clouds fleeced about it and formed a peculiar halo resembling a cross. We took that for a good omen.
