When my heart was in anguish: Thou hast exalted me on a rock. Ps. lx. 3. This was the letter that I read in my parlour that night, as the man in his livery stood beside me, dusty with riding. "There is a young man here named Master Richard Raynal, who tells us that you are his friend. He desires to see you before his death, for he has been set upon and will not live many days.

LX. This sheet bore a neatly engraved head reading "Katrina, Permit 843 LX, Apartment 57, K Street, Level of the Free Women." The letter ran: "Dear Karl: For three weeks now you have failed to keep your appointments and sent no explanation. You surely know that I will not tolerate such rude neglect. I have reported to the Supervisor that you are dropped from my list." So this was Katrina!
