'Thy word have I hid in my heart. PSALM cxix. 11. 'I have not hid Thy righteousness in my heart. PSALM xl. 10. Then there are two kinds of hiding one right and one wrong: one essential to the life of the Christian, one inconsistent with it. He is a shallow Christian who has no secret depths in his religion.

In order therefore to gain freshness, I resolved to peruse the entire prophecy of the pseudo-Isaiah in Lowth's version, from ch. xl. onward, at a single sitting. This prophet writes from Babylon, and has his vision full of the approaching restoration of his people by Cyrus, whom he addresses by name.

One flesh also signifies one man; as is evident from the passages in the Word where mention is made of all flesh, which signifies every man, as Gen. chap. vi. 12, 13, 17, 19; Isaiah xl. 5, 6; chap. xlix. 26; chap. lxvi. 16, 23, 24; Jer. xxv. 31; chap, xxxii. 27; chap. xlv. 5; Ezek. xx. 48; chap. xxi. 4, 5; and other passages.

And we have now said enough about the statements of cases; now it seems necessary to speak of those controversies which turn upon the letter of the law. XL. The controversy turns upon the letter of the law when some doubt arises from the consideration of the exact terms in which it is drawn up.
