When we consider what is known of the emotional nature of these animals, and the periodicity of its intensification, it is hardly credible that a female would often risk life or limb through her admiration of a trifling shade of colour, or an infinitesimally greater though irresistibly fascinating degree of wartiness.
It is this clear-cut intensification of one factor and the exclusion of others which we must bear in mind when we compare the early Protestant sects with the Catholic Church of the Middle Ages. Deep religious fervor easily leads to narrowness, especially when the spiritual values regarded as essential are subjective and rather formal.
It passed into Mortimer Lightwood's mind that a change of some sort, best expressed perhaps as an intensification of all that was wildest and most negligent and reckless in his friend, had come upon him in the last half-hour or so. Among the measures which may be taken to increase the home production of food the following may be mentioned: Improved farming or intensification of agriculture under the existing system. It is admitted that English, and perhaps still more Scottish, farming at its best is admirably conducted.
A reproduction is given of photographed spectra of the four outermost planets, showing a great number of new lines and bands; intensification of hydrogen F. and C. lines; a steady increase of effects and as we pass from Jupiter and Saturn to Uranus, and a still greater increase in Neptune. Asteroids. The discovery of these new planets has been described.
