He claimed to be God-Man, to be divine; to have come from heaven. I could not understand this; and I was driven to the conclusion and I challenge any candid man to deny the inference, or meet the argument that Jesus Christ is either an impostor or deceiver, or He is the God-Man God manifest in the flesh. But should it be granted that the whole of Christ's life and conversation among men was for our example, for no other end at all, but that we should learn to live by his example, yet it would not follow, but be as far from truth as the ends of the earth are asunder, that by this means he sought to possess us with the holiness we had lost, for that he had not in himself; it is true he was born without sin, yet born God and man; he lived in the world without sin, but he lived as God-Man: he walked in and up to the law, but it was as God-Man.

In a created man these parts are many, and regarded in their details of structure are numberless; but in God-Man they are infinite, nothing whatever is lacking, and from this He has infinite perfection.

And this is the blessed mystery of love, that Jesus the God-man waits to come in to me in the greatness of His love; and as He gets possession of my heart, He embraces me in those divine arms and tells me, "My child, I the Faithful One, I the Mighty One will abide with thee, will watch over thee and keep thee all the days."

To people who were at all accustomed to the conception of a God-Man it was difficult not to feel that the conception was realized in Alexander.
