Vagabond. Piozzi's Synonymy, ii. 358. Mme. Thrale to give one toast, and then, with smiling pomposity, pronouncing "The great Vagabond." 'Very near to admiration is the wish to admire. It was about a 14-foot dory no smaller one in the flotilla. The skipper of the 396 looked down at him. "What you want?" The bluejacket removed the cigarette from his lips. "I'm from the 384, sir." "Yes, yes, but what do you want?" "I've come, sir" he waved his cigarette-stub airily "to take off the survivors. The captain thought I might be able to make one load of 'em."
But as he had neglected to ask the permission of the Thebans, and conducted the sacrifice and solemnities by means of his own prophets and ministers, and in a manner at variance with the usual rites of the temple, the Thebans were offended, and expelled him by armed force: an insult which he never forgave. The largest number of applications for purchase in any one year was 6,195 for £2,271,569 in 1887, and the average price for all the holdings bought under these Acts was £396.
