Alfieri, the poet, had a great aversion to dancing; and one Daneau wrote a Traité des Danses, in which he maintains that "the devil never invented a more effectual way than dancing, to fill the world with ." The bishop of Noyon once presided at some deliberations respecting a minuet; and in 1770, a reverend prelate presented a document on dancing to the king of France.

Most of these stations for such they should be termed were established, for slaving purposes, by the Portuguese, and were conquered by the Dutch. Thence they passed into the hands of England, who vigorously worked the black traite for the benefit of her West Indian possessions.

Si je vous traitais comme l'usurpateur et ses adherens ont traité les habitans des pays ou ils ont fait la guerre, je vous ferais fusiller; mais, comme vous vous êtes constitué guerrier, je vous fais prisonnier de guerre. July 13, 1815. Characteristic Letter to Marshal Beresford.

This earned me a stab in the back from the butt-end of the pike of one of my guards. "What ails you now?" quoth the man irritably. "Forward, Monsieur le traite!" I moved on, scarce remarking the fellow's roughness; my eyes were still upon that face the white, piteous face of Roxalanne. No wonder that he was the despair of his masters, and that his famous "Traite de la volonte," which he composed instead of preparing the ordinary school work, was summarily confiscated and destroyed. So many were the punishment lines given him to write, that his holidays were almost entirely taken up, and he had not six days of liberty the whole time that he was at college.

In 1819 Laennec published the results of his labors in a work called Traite d'Auscultation Mediate, a work which forms one of the landmarks of scientific medicine.

"BIBLIOGRAPHIE INSTRUCTIVE; OU, TRAITÉ DE LA CONNAISSANCE DES LIVRES RARES ET SINGULIERS; contenant un catalogue raisonné de la plus grande partie de ces livres précieux, qui ont paru successivement dans la république des lettres, depuis l'invention de l'imprimerie jusqu'

This reflex is always present in healthy adult subjects and indicates the integrity of the physical mechanism of detumescence. It has been described by Hughes. Roubaud, Traité de l'Impuissance, 1855, p. 39. Das Weib, seventh edition, vol. i, p. 510.
