I am told that even now my eyes have a strange brightness, a swift alertness of movement. At first I spent the daylight hours on the southward beach watching for a ship, hoping and praying for a ship. I counted on the "Ipecacuanha" returning as the year wore on; but she never came. Five times I saw sails, and thrice smoke; but nothing ever touched the island.

Now, you must give me doses of this just strong enough not to act as an emetic, every three hours." Frank nursed his friend assiduously, and for the next three days hoped that he was obtaining a mastery over the illness. On the fourth day an attack of fever set in. "You must stop the ipecacuanha, now," Mr.

If I choose, I'll physic Jane, and the dog, and the cat, and the kitten, which I reckon to be the whole of my establishment, all four of them on the same day. Tell me, doctor, how much ipecacuanha will make a kitten sick?" "Mrs St. Felix, I am not a veterinary surgeon, and therefore cannot answer." "Veterinary! Well, I thought they only doctored horses."

Having found myself rather worse, these two or three last days, I was obliged to take some ipecacuanha last night; and, what you will think odd, for a vomit, I brought it all up again in about an hour, to my great satisfaction and emolument, which is seldom the case in restitutions.

The edge of the hill, from which a few trees have been cleared, is so steep that but for a bamboo rail one might slip over upon the tree-tops below. Some Liberian coffee shrubs, some tea, cinchona, and ipecacuanha, and some heartless English cabbages, are being grown on the hillside, and the Resident hopes that the State will have a great future of coffee.

If, for the first two days of a bad cold, the child is kept in bed, the room being at a temperature of 60°, with no extra covering on the bed, but a flannel jacket for the child to wear when it sits up in bed to play, a few drops of ipecacuanha wine several times a day, a warm bath, a linseed poultice to the chest, and a little paregoric at night, with a light diet of rice, and arrowroot, and milk, and a roasted apple, and some orange juice; nine times out of ten, or nineteen out of twenty, the cold will pass away with small discomfort to the child and no anxiety to the parents.

This can be only depended upon by having the medicine from a highly respectable chemist, Ipecacuanha Wine, when genuine and good, is, in many children's diseases, is one of the most valuable of medincies. What, in a case of inflammation of the lungs, NOT to do Do not, on any account, apply leeches. They draw out the life of the child, but not his disease.

Take of ether 2 drms, white sugar 1-1/2 drms., tinc. of opium 60 drops, cinnamon water 2 oz.; mix. Give a teaspoonful every hour in cramp of the stomach. Take of tinc. of assafoetida 1 drm, ipecacuanha 10 gr., tinc. of opium 10 drops, distilled water 2 ozs.; mix. Give to a child two years old a teaspoonful every four hours, increasing ten drops for every additional year. FOR WINTER COUGH, &c.

Now, with regard to medicine, the best medicine is Ipecacuanha Wine, given in large doses, so as to produce constant nausea. The Ipecacuanha abates fever, acts on the skin, loosens the cough, and, in point of fact, in the majority of cases, will rapidly effect a cure. I have in a preceding Conversation given you a prescription for the Ipecacuanha Wine Mixture.

Take of Wine of Ipecacuanha, three drachms; Simple Syrup, three drachms; Water, six drachms; Make a Mixture. A tea-spoonful of the mixture to be taken every four hours. Be careful that you go to a respectable chemist, in order that the totality of the Ipecacuanha Wine may be good, as the child's life may depend upon it.
