Abruptly, the categories of the infinite, the infant gods, shapes divine and demoniac, the entire phantasmagoria of metempsychosis, seemed really absorbed and Brahm himself ablated. For a moment the skies, sterilized by a breath, seemingly were vacant. Actually they were never more peopled. Behind the pall, tossed on an antique faith, new gods were crouching and waiting.
Van Brunt that one sickened her. She went up to his poor mother, and, getting down on her knees by her side, put both arms round her neck. "Don't cry so, dear Mrs. "Oh, ain't it dreadful!" said poor Mrs. Van Brunt; "oh,'Brahm, 'Brahm! My son, my son! the best son that ever was to me oh, to see him there; ain't it dreadful? he's dying!"
It had its most flourishing period probably in the third or fourth century B.C. Its origin is attributed to Brahm, and its subjects are selected from the mythology. Whether the drama represents the legends of the gods, or the simple circumstances of ordinary life; whether it describes allegorical or historical subjects, it bears always the same character of its origin and of its tendency.
That is, it claims that prakriti, or elemental nature, and the soul, or âtma, find their source in Brâhm; and thus it practically vitiates the fundamental teachings of both systems. At the same time, it also teaches the separate existence of individual souls, which is anti-Vedantic.
As upon the foregoing point, so upon this: there was a complete analogy between the decision arrived at in Grecian and that in Indian philosophy. Thus the latter says, "I am myself an irradiated manifestation of the supreme BRAHM." "Never was there a time in which I was not, nor thou, nor these princes of the people, and never shall I not be; henceforth we all are."
For some twenty years Palleske and Scherr held the field in Germany without serious competition, and then a new crop of biographies began to appear. The same may be said of the biography by C. Hepp, Leipzig, 1885. Of an entirely different character are the contributions of Weltrich, Minor, and Brahm, which are essentially works of historico-critical interpretation.
"We'll be back in half an hour, if 'Brahm and me don't come across a snowdrift a leetle too deep. Good night, Maam." And out he went. " 'Back in half an hour, " said Alice, musing. "Why, he said he had been to untie his horse for the night. He must be going on our account, I am sure, Ellen!" "On your account," said Ellen, smiling. "Oh, I knew that all the time, Miss Alice.
In one school the Divine Being is nothing and materialism has full sway; while in the other Brâhm is everything, and all that appears to men the phenomenal is false and illusive. Again, as to the method of redemption, the Yoga philosophy advocates renunciation, self-effacement, and all the forms of asceticism.
Am I not, then, akin to God? what better for me than to sit down and think, as Brahm thinks, and so enjoy my eternal heritage, leaving for those who cannot think the passions and pleasures which they share in common with the beasts of the field? So I shall become more and more like Brahm will his will, think his thoughts, till I lose utterly this house-fiend of self, and become one with God.
He is always in a kind of sleep. What would be the use of worshipping him? Next to him are three gods, and they are part of Brahm. Their names are I. Brahma, the Creator. II. Vishnoo, the Preserver. III. Sheeva, the Destroyer. Which of these should you think men ought to worship the most? Not the destroyer. Yet it is him they do worship the most. Very few worship Brahma the creator. And why not?
