Lake Bonney is a shallow sandy basin, which is annually filled by the Murray; and as it rises, so, to a certain extent, it falls with the river, until at length, being left very shallow, it is soon dried up.

Last night about 10 o'clock, I observed the comet for the first time, above the west horizon; it set at 7 o'clock 20 degrees north of west. At sundown it has become overcast with heavy clouds, and my hopes are again raised; I trust we may get it now. Midnight: still cloudy, and every appearance of rain. Wind changeable. Saturday, 7th July, The Bonney Creek.

Two long journeys on successive days without water would reduce them again to the same state of weakness as they were in at the Bonney Creek.

Scurvy had now laid its hand upon the leader, and he began to suffer severely. After much trouble and delay, Stuart, by working to the eastward, at last got forward again, and on the 1st of June found a large creek, the best he had yet seen, which he called the Bonney, and on the second of the month reached the range christened by him the Murchison Range.

That a subscription list be immediately opened in Adelaide to collect funds in aid of the undertaking. That R. F. Newland, Esq., be requested to act as Treasurer to this Committee, and that subscriptions be received at the Banks of Australasia and South Australia. E. C. FROME, Chairman. CHAS. BONNEY, Secretary.

A portion must have given way and thrown him into the creek, injuring him very much in the chest and other parts of the body. I am afraid he will not be able to travel with me, which will be a great loss, having so many weak ones already. Wind, south-east, with a few clouds. Thursday, 25th September, The Bonney. Clouds all gone, no rain. Resting horses, etc.

John Knott, Esq. Charles Bonney, Esq. Duncan M'Farlane, Esq. John Brown, Esq. David McLaren, Esq. Edward Eyre, Esq. John Morphett, Esq. John Finniss, Esq. Chas. Mann, Esq. J. H. Fisher, Esq. R. F. Newland, Esq. Lieutenant Frome, Dr. Rankin. Esq. Surveyor-general G. Stevenson, Esq. O. Gilles, Esq. F. Stephens, Esq. Captain Grey W. Smilie, Esq. J. B. Hack, Esq. T. B. Strangwaya, Esq.

As I have previously observed of Lake Bonney, it is connected with the Murray by the Rufus, and by this distribution of its waters, the floods of the Murray are prevented from being excessive, or rising above a certain height. The southern shore of Lake Victoria is very picturesque, as well as the line of the Rufus.

There were only about a half dozen colored members attached to the Elm Street church, at this time. After the congregation was dismissed, these descended from the gallery, and took a seat against the wall most distant from the altar. Brother Bonney was very animated, and sung very sweetly, "Salvation 'tis a joyful sound," and soon began to administer the sacrament.

But if the alluvial gold's not there I'd like to have it proved By what ingenious process it Can ever be removed? Then back to Bendigo I'll haste, To seek the precious ore; Although my one pound ten I fear Returns to me no more. Yet as the boundary line I cross, My parting prayer shall be Ah! cruel Bonney! pray return My one pound ten to me! ANTIGROPOLOS. Adelaide, September 1852.
