But it made an extraordinarily impressive background or frame for a lovely woman, and Marie Della Robbia was a lovely woman. Luca della Robbia, whose life embraced the first eighty years of the fifteenth century, offers in many important respects a contrast to his contemporaries Ghiberti and Donatello, and still more to their immediate followers. So it is with the beautiful Cantorie made for God's praise by Donatello and Luca della Robbia.

Dominic himself in a friendly embrace with S. Francis, a very beautiful group by either Luca or Andrea della Robbia. In the loggia cabmen now wrangle all day and all night.
