Psa. 119:105. Much reading of the Scripture will impart wisdom and knowledge, and be a help to us in directing the affairs of life. You may have a difficult matter to settle with your neighbor. Open your Bible and read: "Whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them." Quite likely this will enable you to settle the matter in perfect satisfaction to all.
Christian reader, let me beg of thee that thou wilt not be offended either with God or men, if the cross is laid heavy upon thee. Not with God, for he doeth nothing without a cause; nor with men, for they are the hand of God: and will they, nill they, they are the servants of God to thee for good. Psa. 17:14; Jer. 24:5. Take, therefore, what comes from God by them thankfully.
All the time the brother was troubled, the barrel of flour was on the way. Take no anxiety for future things. "Commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still." Psa. 4:4. Each evening in some quiet place and with interior stillness talk with your heart and let your heart talk to you. Take a distinctive view of your inward life.
"If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?" Psa. xi. 3. "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good." 1 Thess. v. 21. "Buy the truth and sell it not." Prov. xxiii. 23.
Indeed, when this fear of God is wanting, though the profession be never so famous, the heart is shut up and straitened, and nothing is done in that princely free spirit, which is called "the spirit of the fear of the Lord," but with grudging, legally, or with desire of vain glory. Psa. 51:12; Isa. 11:2.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord"? And in Psa. 34:7 is this blessed assurance: "The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them." Hallelujah! "In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion." Psa. 71:1. Before I left B , that town had a well-organized law and order league.
They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures. For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light." Psa. xxxvi. 7-9.
We rather turn to the glorious array of witnesses to the integrity of the Bible that God has furnished the book itself, Moses and the prophets, all the New Testament writers and the "Teacher sent from God." "Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh; is there anything too hard for me?" Jer. xxxii. 27. "God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God." Psa. lxii. 11.
"Cleanse thou me from secret faults." PSA. xix, 12. "The King's daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold." PSA. xiv. 13. The religion of Christ has something to say to every man, woman, and child, in every relation, on every day, in every experience of life.
"Great is our Lord, and of great power; his understanding is infinite." Psa. cxlvii. 5. "He revealeth the deep and secret things; he knoweth what is in the darkness, and that the light dwelleth with him." Dan. ii. 2. "Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world" Acts xv. 18. "The Lord looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men." Psa. xxxiii. 13.
