Christianity can absorb New Thought far more easily than Christian Science. Theosophy in its extremer forms it cannot absorb at all.

He lived quietly for more than thirty years longer and died in 1694. He seems also to have been, as some others of the extremer Puritans certainly were, pretty loose in his construction of moral laws. The Isle is a very short book of thirty-one quarto pages: but there is a good deal in it, and it must have been very carefully written.

The extremer quags he had hitherto escaped; the smaller, into which he fell in his agile evasions of the big, he had hitherto been blest in finding none to notice. He requested her ladyship's permission to present his daughter. Lady Camper sent in her card. The rich colouring confessed to it.

Sometimes from that of an open naturalism; sometimes from that of a partial yet far-reaching "naturalism under a veil" which some recent teachings on "The Being of Christianity" may exemplify, with principles and presuppositions which largely underlie the extremer forms, certainly, of the modern critique of Scripture; sometimes from the opposite quarter of an ecclesiasticism which more or less exaggerates or distorts the great ideas of corporate life and sacramental operation.

The religion which Mr Arnold attacks is not the religion of the Church of England at all, or only of what was even then a decaying and uninfluential part of it, the extremer and more intolerant sect of the Evangelicals. She had addressed the president, partly from his office, his comparatively extreme age he must have been at least thirty! and possibly for his extremer good looks. He said hurriedly, "It's just an informal meeting;" and then, more politely, "What can we do for you?"

He stood against the gulf of air and his great frame seemed enlarged, like the figure of the Brocken. He was like his father, the old laird, but there glowed an extremer dark anger and power. The old laird had made himself the dream-avenger of injuries adopted, not felt at first hand. The present laird knew the wounding, the searing.

He professed to like my supernatural beliefs much better than the anti-supernatural views of the extremer portion of his brethren. And perhaps he did like them better, though he had lost the power to believe them himself.

But they love it, as they love bacon and beans. The musical taste of our people is in the stage of the primitive appetite for noise, and for that they are gluttons. 'It will be pleasant to hear in the distance, Chloe replied. 'Ay, the extremer the distance, the pleasanter to hear. Are they advancing? 'They stop. There is a cavalier at the window. Now he doffs his hat. 'Sweepingly?
