The only full-fledged law that I know of in the educative process is the law of habit building focalization, attentive repetition at intervals of increasing length, permitting no exception and I am often told that this "law" is fallacious. It has differed from some other so-called laws, however, in this respect: it always works.

Miss Heredith said she would arrange it with the housekeeper, and was then politely escorted to the door by Captain Stanhill. The next few hours were educative for Captain Stanhill.

The consequences of error or mistake warn one not to make the same error or mistake again; and therefore the consequences, however unpleasant or sad at the moment, are really educative in their nature, and their very trial or pain becomes, if truly recognized, a friendly and redemptive power. The educative value of such play has been brought forward in modern times in Floor Games by Mr. Wells, Magic Cities by Mrs. Nesbit, and notably in Mr. Caldwell Cook's Play City in The Play Way. Joining together for a common purpose does not only belong to younger boys. "What busy tumult among those older boys at the brook!

Every item of energy that the pupils possessed was being given to some educative activity. Nothing was lost by conflict between pupil and teacher. Nothing was lost by bursts of anger or by fits of depression. These sources of waste had been eliminated so far as I could determine. The pupils could read well and write well and cipher accurately. They even took a keen delight in the drills.

As an educative object for those unaccustomed to celestial observations it may be compared among star clusters to beta Cygni among double stars, for the most indifferent spectator is struck with wonder in viewing it.

At the same stroke, the flame has gained in meaning; all that is known about combustion, oxidation, about light and temperature, may become an intrinsic part of its intellectual content. The other side of an educative experience is an added power of subsequent direction or control.

This was not an animal to be controlled it was an animal to be, at the most, educated. She admitted accordingly that she was educative which Maggie was so aware that she herself, inevitably, wasn't; so it came round to being true that what she was most in charge of was his mere intelligence.
