Miss Sartain has been the principal of the Philadelphia School of Design for Women since 1886. She studied engraving under her father, John Sartain, and with Luminais in Paris. She engraved and etched book illustrations and numerous larger prints. She is also a painter of portraits and genre pictures, and has exhibited at the Salon des Beaux-Arts, Paris.
