In its first year, the society received $37,779, and issued 6,410 volumes; in its seventieth year its receipts were $523,910, and it issued 1,437,440 volumes. In the Bible House, the working force manufacturing and executive numbers about 250. The auxiliaries which directly and indirectly center in this society, number about 7,000.
At any rate, we have here, undoubtedly, the history of the inauguration of the reading of the law as one of the regular acts of public worship. And this must have been about 440 B.C.
The cost of sending them there, including insurance, &c., made them net him but 72, but at this price he gained a profit of $40,000. With his capital now augmented to $1,440,000 he bought rags in Italy, which he sold in New York for $1,584,000, ex duty and plus transportation, a clear profit of $184,000 from the start.

The Nina's pilot made it 440 leagues from the Canaries, the Pinta's 420 leagues, and the Admiral's pilot, doubtless instructed by the Admiral, made it 400. On Sunday the 23rd they were getting into the seaweed and finding crayfish again; and there being no reasonable cause for complaint a scare was got up among the crew on an exceedingly ingenious point.

These are reprinted in the 'History. Of the remainder, over 100 pages are devoted to the Law of Evidence, which is not discussed in the 'History. Consequently the first 233 pages of the 'View' correspond to the whole of the three volumes of the 'History, which, omitting the reported trials given in both books, contain 4,440 pages.
