He comes at times in majesty so great, that no one can have any doubt that it is our Lord Himself, especially after Communion: we know that He is then present, for faith says so. He shows Himself so clearly to be the Lord of that little dwelling-place, that the soul seems to be dissolved and lost in Christ. O my Jesus, who can describe the majesty wherein Thou showest Thyself!
In the Qayyúm-i-Asmá the Báb, for His part, thus addresses Muḥammad Sháh: “O King of Islám! I swear by God, O Sháh! If thou showest enmity unto Him Who is His Remembrance, God will, on the Day of Resurrection, condemn thee, before the kings, unto hellfire, and thou shalt not, in very truth, find on that Day any helper except God, the Exalted.
"Within there, Coll! Hast the damsel awakened from her swoon?" "Yes, Sir Peter," replied the old woman, "I was but just urging her to arise and clothe herself, saying that you awaited her below." "Haste then, My Lady Bertrade," called the man, "no harm will be done thee if thou showest the good sense I give thee credit for.
I was in this state for four or five hours; there was no comfort for me, either from heaven or on earth only our Lord left me to suffer, afraid of a thousand dangers. O my Lord, how true a friend art Thou! how powerful! Thou showest Thy power when Thou wilt; and Thou dost will it always, if only we will it also. Let the whole creation praise Thee, O Thou Lord of the world!
Blessed are thy, for not only does God in person gather them to Him, but as soon as they are dead, the angels go joyously to meet them and with beaming faces go to greet them, saying, "Enter into peace." When Moses and Eleazar returned from the mountain without Aaron, Israel said to Moses: "We shall not release thee from this spot until thou showest us Aaron, dead or alive."
They saw that He had a right to clear the Temple courts. Then the Jews wondered who had given Him this right, and they said to Him, "What sign showest Thou unto us, seeing Thou doest these things?" And this was the sign He gave them: "Destroy this Temple, and in three days I will raise it up."
Nathan, hearing his discourse and his cruel design, was inwardly all disordered; but nevertheless, without much hesitation, he answered him with an undaunted mind and a firm countenance, saying, 'Mithridanes, thy father was a noble man and thou showest thyself minded not to degenerate from him, in having entered upon so high an emprise as this thou hast undertaken, to wit, to be liberal unto all; and greatly do I commend the jealousy thou bearest unto Nathan's virtues, for that, were there many such, the world, that is most wretched, would soon become good.
At these words a bright stream of light flashed from the holy of holies, and again was suddenly extinguished when the high-priest sang: "Thus showest thou thyself as light to the children of truth, but dost punish with darkness the children of lies." "Again?" asked Krates in a voice which conveyed a desire that the answer might be 'No. "I must trouble you," replied the high-priest.
They still wished Him to do some wonder, or show them how to work wonders, for they asked Him what they should do to work the works of God. "This is the work of God," He said, "That ye believe on Him whom He hath sent." Still they remembered the miracle of the bread. "What sign showest Thou?" they said, "Our fathers did eat manna in the desert." Then He spoke plainly to them of Himself.
Verily, thou showest a high endeavour, hast a pure and sanctified purpose, wishest naught save the good-pleasure of God, seekest nothing but the attainment of limitless bounties, and art engaged in the promulgation of divine teachings and the explanation of abstruse metaphysical problems.
