Its two principal monuments, after the Jubilee fountain, are the tombstone of the founder of the Dopper Church the Ironsides of South Africa and a statue with inscribed pedestal complete put up to commemorate the introduction of the Dutch tongue into the Cape Parliament.

Mean rumours of this kind ran about, or were mischievously circulated, till they affected the Army itself and roused suspicions of Cromwell's integrity even among his own Ironsides.

In just thirty minutes, the British frigate is a wreck. "Hurrah, boys! hurrah for 'Old Ironsides'!" he shouted to his mates; "her sides are made of iron." Some say that from this incident the nickname of "Old Ironsides" took its origin.
A wounded cavalier, accompanied by one of his retainers, also wounded, is being forced along on foot, evidently to imprisonment, by one of Cromwell's Ironsides and a long-faced, high-hatted Puritan cavalry-man, both on horseback, and a third on foot, with musquetoon on shoulder.
