It is not "kindly affectioned"; it does not "seek another's, and not its own"; it does not "let the oppressed go free." These are sentiments that are cherished, and of late with greatly augmented force, among the people of the Northern States.

"Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks." Prov. 27:23. "Eat so much as is sufficient for thee." Prov. 25:16. "Be not wise in your own conceits." Rom. 12:16 "Abstain from all appearance of evil." 1 Thes. 5:22. "See that none render evil for evil unto any man." 1 Thes. 5:15. "Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love." Rom. 12:10.

These were wrought into beautiful harmony, by the Christian principles which had long governed his life, and from which he had learned to be, at the same time, "diligent in business" and "kindly affectioned" to have no fear of man, and to love his brother, whom he had seen, as the best manifestation of devotion to God, whom he had not seen.

To every child living comes a voice, "Know thou that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment." Original. Be kindly affectioned one to another, with brotherly love, in honor preferring one another. To aid you in making the effort to comply with the injunction we have been considering, I add the following considerations: 1st.

Why couldn't people be kindly affectioned one toward another, as the Apostle enjoined, when there was nothing very objectionable in the other? It puzzled Ben. He was passionately fond of his mother, too; but the issue had to be met. And the very next evening when Mrs.

Parents should never forget that it is always as unpleasant to a child to have his will and plans crossed as it is to themselves, and that, therefore, it is their own obedience to the injunction, Be kindly affectioned, which alone can make their authority both strong and pleasant.

"It is said," observed Sibyll, looking down, "that my Lord Hastings once much affectioned the Lady Bonville. Hast thou heard such gossip?" "Surely, yes; in the city we hear all the tales of the court; for many a courtier, following King Edward's exemplar, dines with the citizen to-day, that he may borrow gold from the citizen to-morrow.

Brethren, friends, all, let us make up our minds that we will be kindly affectioned one to another in our homes and out of them, on this approaching Christmas day. That the old debate, the ancient strife, the rankling recollection, the sharp contention, shall be put aside, that "envy, hatred, and malice, and all uncharitableness" shall be done away with.

Live a holy life, obey the commandments of God, have a will to serve God, and if sometimes you do not feel him nor perceive him, do not be troubled, but consider that he knows the way you take and that when he has tried you, you shall come forth as gold. "Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love." Rom. 12:10. Brotherly love is precious in the sight of angels.
