Stopped a night in Inverness, another at Elgin, and spent the Sabbath with my friend, Anthony Cruickshank, at Sittyton, about fifteen miles north of Aberdeen. Sittyton designates hardly a village in Aberdeenshire, but it has become a point of great interest to the agricultural world a second Babraham.

Butler, notwithstanding the popularity of his work, was neglected by the Court, and d. in poverty. He also wrote on the Sonnets of Shakespeare. Poet, was b. in London, the s. of Captain John B. and of Catherine Gordon, heiress of Gight, Aberdeenshire, his second wife, whom he m. for her money and, after squandering it, deserted.

The authorities to whom I am indebted for the information contained in this map are for: SCOTLAND: A. Geikie, Esquire, F.G.S., and T.F. Jamieson, Esquire, of Ellon, Aberdeenshire. ENGLAND: For the counties of: Yorkshire, Lancashire, and Durham: Colonel Sir Henry James, R.E. Dorsetshire, Hampshire, and Isle of Wight: H.W. Bristow, Esquire.

Mr. T.F. Jamieson, of Ellon, in Aberdeenshire, has recently brought forward an additional body of facts in support of this theory. According to him the Grampians were at the period of extreme cold enveloped "in one great winding sheet of snow and ice," which reached everywhere to the coast-line, the land being then more elevated than it is now.

From Perth he marched on Aberdeen, gaining some reinforcements from the northern gentry, and in particular from the Earl of Airlie. From Aberdeen Montrose proceeded by Rothiemurchus to Blair Athole, but suddenly turned backwards to Aberdeenshire, where he defended Fyvie Castle, slipped past Argyll, and again reached Blair Athole.

Her father was a well-to-do banker; her mother a cultivated woman of Scotch descent, from Aberdeenshire. Jean grew to womanhood in the midst of eleven brothers and sisters, without the fate of struggle and poverty, so common among the great. She writes to a friend concerning her childhood:

I send you his note, and you can make what you like of it. I am intending a little jaunt to his country, and we mean to visit sundry old castles in Aberdeenshire, and wish you were of the party. I hope you have been passing your time agreeably. With best compliments to all friends, I remain, my dear Sir Walter, ever yours, Written by William Mudford, born 1782, died 1848.

Tudor is thinking of resigning his place at the Civil Service Board, and standing for that borough of Lord Gaberlunzie's, in Aberdeenshire? 'I really cannot say, said Gertrude; 'but I believe he has some idea of going into Parliament. I rather believe he will continue to hold his place. 'Oh, that I know to be impossible!

During the walk I could hardly persuade myself I was out of Aberdeenshire, the country is so very like, but it is rather flatter. Next morning was clear and cloudless, and the sun shone bright over a country drenched and covered with water. I wished that day to reach Inverness, but a new difficulty appeared. I was told that the Findhorn was so swollen that no mortal man could get across.

Garth Dalmain still lies in a most precarious condition at his house on Deeside, Aberdeenshire, as a result of the shooting accident a fortnight ago. His sight is hopelessly gone, but the injured parts were progressing favourably, and all fear of brain complications seemed over.
