"Hand over th' two pound' and we'll go." "I'll see you damned first!" A flush of rage blinded the young man. The knowledge that the Alethea was minute by minute slipping beyond his reach seemed to madden him. White-lipped and ominously quiet he rose from his seat on the combing, as, without answer, the fisherman, crawling out on the overhand, began to haul in the dory.

The larger species the white-lipped peccary is dreaded by the farmers, as it frequently, in large numbers, attacks their crops, choosing always the most flourishing fields. The peccary, though occasionally found by itself, is a gregarious animal.

A southeast wind is dreaded, with good reason, in Rosnacree Bay. It descends from the mountains in vicious squalls. It catches rushing tides at baffling angles and lashes them into white-lipped fury. Sturdy island boats of the larger size, boats with bluff bows and bulging sides, brave it under their smallest lugs.

These markings have given to each its specific name. They are farther distinguished, by the forehead of the white-lipped peccary being more hollowed or concave than that of its congener. In most other respects these creatures are alike. Both feed upon roots, fruits, frogs, toads, lizards, and snakes.

Yet this difference of habit may arise from the fact that in the places where both have been observed, the latter have not been so plentiful as the white-lipped species. As many as a hundred of the collared peccary have been observed in one "gang," and no doubt had there been more of them in the neighbourhood, the flock would have been still larger.

Viviette, white-lipped and dazed, looked at Austin, Katherine, and Dick in turns. She said, in the high-pitched voice, to Austin: "Have you asked Katherine to marry you?" "Yes," he replied, not quite so confidently, and avoiding her glance "and she has done me the honour of accepting me." Katherine held out a conciliatory hand to Viviette. "Won't you congratulate me, dear?"

Life could never be the same to her, and the farther from the same the better! The beauty came down in the morning pale and dim and white-lipped, like a flower that had had no water. Mercy was fresh and rosy, with a luminous mist of loveliness over her plain unfinished features. Already had they begun to change in the direction of beauty.

It is one of the innumerable and at present insoluble problems in the history of life on our planet. I spent a couple of days of hard work in getting the big white-lipped peccaries white-lipped being rather a misnomer, as the entire under jaw and lower cheek are white. They were said to be found on the other side of, and some distance back from, the river.

Another took the same road, and smashed to atoms almost at the pierhead, so near, and yet so far from human aid, that the voices of both crews could be heard by the helpless, distracted spectators white-lipped men, wailing women, who clustered there by the rocks in impotent agony.

Jeff had been running to win, that day, and he had taken odds on Skeeter that had seemed to him perfectly safe. "I'll run yuh horse for horse!" he bellowed and spat out an epithet that sent Bud at him white-lipped. "Damn yuh, ride down to the quarter post and I'll show you some running!" Bud yelled back.
