The difference of the soul presenting itself as the soul of a god, a man, &c. from the highest Self is not due to its essential nature, but rests on the basis of Nescience in the form of work: when through meditation on Brahman this basis is destroyed, the difference due to it comes to an end, and the soul no longer differs from the highest Self. Pu.

One is feminine, and typifies resigned submission to a supernatural will; the other is masculine, and typifies that insurgent audacity of heart and head, which has wrested a kingdom of science from the vast empire of nescience, and strewed the world with the wrecks of theological power. Christmas and Easter are fruitful in panegyrics on Jesus and the religion which fraudulently bears his name.

It is wise in them, to keep them in abject ignorance, for the strong man armed must be bound before we can spoil his house the powerful intellect of man must be bound down with the iron chains of nescience before we can rob him of his rights as a man; we must reduce him to a thing before we can claim the right to set our feet upon his neck, because it was only all things which were originally put under the feet of man by the Almighty and Beneficent Father of all, who has declared himself to be no respecter of persons, whether red, white or black.

For him the effect of true knowledge is only to put an end to that Nescience which has for its object Brahman, which, in reality, is eternally reached. He, on the other hand, who meditates on Hiranyagarbha may be conceived as moving in order to reach his object, which is something abiding within a special limited place.

Such rules, however, which at best can only furnish a loose and shifting basis for doubtful conjectures, stand without the confines of positive knowledge; they occupy a middle-ground between science and nescience, and constitute what, until very lately, was thought to be designated with sufficient distinctness as the 'Philosophy of History. By that term, Mr.

The sage, it was maintained, held no opinions, he never repented of his conduct, he was never deceived in anything. Between the daylight of knowledge and darkness of nescience Plato had interposed the twilight of opinion wherein men walked for the most part.

But if Maya causes Brahman which is nothing but self-illuminated intelligence, absolutely homogeneous and free from all foreign elements to become conscious of other beings, then Maya is nothing but another name for Nescience.

And that it is not proved by Scripture and arthapatti, will be shown later on. And the reasoning under Su. II, 1, 4. will dispose of the argument which maintains that of a false thing the substantial cause also must be false. We thus see that there is no cognition of any kind which has for its object a Nescience of 'inexplicable' nature.

In the former case Release is nothing else but destruction of the essential nature of the soul; in the latter case the soul does not attain Release even on the destruction of Nescience, since it continues to exist as soul different from Brahman.
