Besides, except for the heat, flies, septic sores, the khamseen, bad water, dysentery, vaccination, inoculations many and various, digging holes, and a depressing sameness about the scenery, we had, according to some, little to grumble at. We were not unduly harassed by the Turks; indeed, it was our function to harass them.
It declares that all inoculations of disease into the healthy body are illegitimate, and it condemns all such. It declares that all those foul injections of modern medicine which use animal fluids to restore the exhausted vitality of man are ruinous to the body into which they are put.
Only in such emergencies as the present, when the Government is forced to beg the Labour members to help them to recruit, is there a chance of making reasonable conditions for the soldier. *The Four Inoculations.* It is therefore necessary that the War Office should have working class representatives on all committees and councils which issue notices to the public.
It took some time to explain to the spokesman why they could not begin then and there with the mass inoculations against the plague. First, they needed test cases, in order to make certain that what they thought would work in theory actually produced the desired results.

A few such inoculations will make it as active as ever. These variations doubtless exist among the species in Nature as well as in artificial cultures.
There was time for all the world to be informed of the procedure, for the first "preventive" inoculation or vaccination, as Pasteur termed it was made on May 5th, the second on May 17th, and another interval of two weeks must elapse before the final inoculations with the unattenuated virus. Twenty-four sheep, one goat, and five cattle were submitted to the preliminary vaccinations.
When this effective force was greatly reduced, and in some parts entirely disbanded, by the sapient government of the time, Dugingi, with numerous others of his countrymen similarly instructed, were let loose to join their tribes, to contaminate the hitherto inoffensive blacks with their vile inoculations.
Not one of them had begun reacting normally, not one showed any sign of recognition or recovery. But the real horror was on the other side of the field.
