There are many facilities for the transaction of business, as far as the shipment of articles is concerned; but great difficulties attend the settling of disputed accounts, collecting debts, etc., in the way of which the laws passed in 1834 have thrown many obstacles. All commercial business of this kind goes before, first, the Junta de Comercio, and then an appeal to the Tribunal de Comercio.

"To the Espana!" "Whose coach is this one?" asked Caesar, pointing to the less dirty of the two. "The Comercio's." "All right, then we are going to the Comercio." The coach, in spite of being the better of the two, was a rickety, worn-out old omnibus, with its windows broken and spotted. It was drawn by three skinny mules, full of galls. Caesar and Alzugaray got in and waited.

It was a fine sight to see three men, by dint of valour and good horsemanship, strike terror into at least as many thousands: I saw Quesada spur his horse repeatedly into the dense masses of the crowd, and then extricate himself in the most masterly manner. The rabble were completely awed, and gave way, retiring by the Calle del Comercio and the Calle del Alcala.

The windows of the hotel of the Comercio in Toledo look out upon the market-place, and Sir John, who was an indoor man, and mentally active enough to be intensely bored at times, frequently used this opportunity of studying Spanish life. He was looking idly through the vile panes, when an old priest passed by, and glanced up beneath shaggy brows. 'Seen that man before, said Sir John.

Those present took to their heels; the pharmacist went to jail to keep San Roman and Ortigosa company, and the Club was shut up.... The election was won by Padilla. The banquet in honour of Padilla was given at the Cafe del Comercio. All the important persons of the town, many of whom had been Caesar's adherents the day before, had gathered to feast the victor.

The Boletin, after giving an account of the English custom of using cheques against banking accounts, instead of dealing in metal or paper currency only, as in Spain, strongly advocates the establishment of the English method.

'Ah, said Madame, looking at him doubtfully, and thinking, despite herself, of Father Concha. Sir John rose from the chair he had taken at the senora's silent invitation. 'Then I may expect the General to arrive at my hotel this evening, he said. 'I am staying at the Comercio, the only hotel, as I understand, in Toledo. 'Yes, he will doubtless descend there.

When the parades were over, or church was out, or it was near time for the play, one always found a dozen officers and gallants sauntering down the Calle de Comercio, bound for the same place: the tobacco shop of Miralda Estalez.
