The captain, for some purpose which he did not choose to reveal, with the connivance and aid of the mate, had bored holes through the bottom of the brig, and could let in the water at his pleasure! A few days after this interesting incident which threw a new light on the character of the man to whose charge I had been intrusted, we reached the latitude of Martinico.
The squadron sailed from Cadiz on the 9th of May, A.D. 1502, and after touching at Ercilla, on the coast of Morocco, stood away for the Canaries, where it arrived on the 25th of May, on the evening of which day he took his departure for the New World. Without shifting a sail it reached Martinico.
We have been disappointed at Martinico; I wish we may not be so at Guadaloupe, though we are landed there; for many difficulties must be got over before we can be in possession of the whole island.
Pierre in Martinico, should sail in the course of a few weeks, and would cheerfully give me a passage to that port. I returned to the interior of the island in fine spirits, and commenced making the necessary arrangements for my departure. In due time, having received information from Mr.
There is, upon this account, little variety in the greater part of their works. The most distinct and best connected account of this doctrine is to be found in a little book written by Mr. Mercier de la Riviere, some time intendant of Martinico, entitled, The natural and essential Order of Political Societies.
My grandfather wrote to the owners of 'La Favourite du Roy', and likewise directed his English agent to spare nothing in the search for some clew to the child's identity. All that he found was that the mother had been entered on the passenger-list as Madame la Farge, of Paris, and was bound for Martinico. Of the father there was no trace whatever. If a Caraib died in Martinico or Guadaloupe and his relations lived in St.
King, once more embarks for Georgia in one of his vessels A new captain is appointed They sail, and steer a new course Three remarkable dreams The vessel is shipwrecked on the Bahama bank, but the crew are preserved, principally by means of the author He sets out from the island with the captain, in a small boat, in quest of a ship Their distress Meet with a wrecker Sail for Providence Are overtaken again by a terrible storm, and are all near perishing Arrive at New Providence The author, after some time, sails from thence to Georgia Meets with another storm, and is obliged to put back and refit Arrives at Georgia Meets new impositions Two white men attempt to kidnap him Officiates as a parson at a funeral ceremony Bids adieu to Georgia, and sails for Martinico.

Martinico, the island probably indicated by the name of Matinino, is about ten leagues distant from Dominca; but the course from the former to the latter is to the north, with a very alight western tendency. Now called Porto Rico. He was formerly called Obando; and is named Nicholas de Ovando by Herrera: Perhaps he had a commandary of the above name.
