LXXVIII. But what brought upon him the greatest odium, and was thought an unpardonable insult, was his receiving the whole body of the conscript fathers sitting, before the temple of Venus Genitrix, when they waited upon him with a number of decrees, conferring on him the highest dignities.

The word translated buy, is, like other words, modified by the nature of the subject to which it is applied. She named him Cain, that is bought. So in Isa. xi. 11. So Ps. lxxviii. 54. Here "bought" is not applied to persons reduced to servitude, but to those taken out of it.

The seventy-eighth psalm contains a rapid review of the history of the chosen people from the day when God led them out of Egypt "with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm," down to the time of David.

The seven angels of Ezekiel may be compared with the seven eyes of Yahweh in Zech. iii. 9, iv. 10.
Are forgiveness, and chattel-making, synonymes? "I am their inheritance." Ezek. xliv. 28. "I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance." Ps. ii. 18. See also Deut. iv. 20; Josh. xiii. 33; Ps. lxxxii. 8; lxxviii. 62, 71; Prov. xiv. 18. The question whether the servants were a PROPERTY-"possession," has been already discussed, pp. 47-64, we need add in this place but a word.
