The Lord, on the other hand, who is the ruling principle in the construction of the Universe is expressly declared by scripture to be the evolver of names and forms; cp. Up. Up. Hence the ether which brings about names and forms is something different from the soul for which name and form are brought about; it is in fact the highest Brahman.

When, therefore, we recognise that shape as referred to in the text, this supplies an inferential mark of Vaisvanara being the highest Self. Cp. e.g. the text of the Atharvanas. Up.

The passage is probably by a later hand. Cp. Pseudo Dionysius Myst.

That Brahman is a knowing subject all scriptural texts declare; cp. Up. Up. Up. Ar. Up. Up. Up. Up. Up. These and other texts declare that to Brahman, whose essential nature is knowledge, there belong many excellent qualities among which that of being a knowing subject stands first, and that Brahman is free from all evil qualities.

That which is described as the abode of heaven, earth, &c. is none other than the highest Brahman, on account of a term which is 'its own, i.e. which specially belongs to it. The clause we have in view is 'he is the bank of the Immortal. This description applies to the highest Brahman only, which alone is, in all Upanishads, termed the cause of the attainment of Immortality; cp. e.g. Up.

And such common mention is suitable in the case of such things only as belong to one class. The 'and for other reasons' of the Sutra refers to the circumstance of the principal breath being specially mentioned among the organs comprised under the term 'prana'; cp. Up. Up.

Hist. 1, 798-805. Cp. When Roman influence was declining slightly and his own was increasing, he was filled with scorn and thought he had no further need of his allies, but believed that either they would assist him free of cost or he could prevail by himself.

But the minor diameter of this Ellipse, Gg, will bear to Qq the proportion which has been defined previously, Article 27, between CG and the major semi-diameter of the spheroid, CP, namely, that of 98,779 to 105,032.

In various other passages indeed, which refer to the pranas, higher numbers are mentioned, viz. up to fourteen, speech, the hands, the feet, the anus, the organ of generation, the ahankara and the kitta being added to those mentioned above; cp. e.g. Up. Samh.

Marcellus straightaway mourned on learning this, buried him brilliantly in his ancestral tomb, assisted by the noblest citizens and all the Romans, and the man's murderer, I trow, he slew with an axe. Dio and Diodorus have written the story. Cp. Proculus sings of having forged fire-producing mirrors and of having hung them from the wall opposite the enemy's ships.
